Behold. A focus board.
What is this nonsense, you may ask? The answer to random stats, as explained yesterday! But the board itself does nothing. You also need...
Focus Stones!
You get these stones by defeating bosses and whatnot. At the end of your adventure, you'll have 3 gold, 3 silver, and 3 bronze stones. These stones go in the nine slots on the board. As you may have noticed, the slots are connected by lines, and each of them have a special meaning.
Each line corresponds to a stat.
The keen reader may notice the lack of a SPD stat, and the addition of ACC, AVO, and ASP. The speed stat controls accuracy, avoidability AND attack speed, but the focus board has special lines for each of them.
By placing stones in the slots, their corresponding stats are boosted. Gold stones boost a stat by 5, Silver by 3, and Bronze by 1. The placement of stones can be swapped at any time outside of battle, or at the cost of a single turn in battle.
Here's a sample board I put together for a Swordmaster, specifically John. John has high STR stats, but his defense is inferior to Emily's, and his speed is a bit lacking. I decided to focus on adding to his strength, defense, and accuracy. The results of this board?
STR +13 (5+5+3)
MAG +7 (1+5+1)
DEF +11 (5+5+1)
RES +7 (3+3+1)
END +9 (5+3+1)
WIS +5 (1+1+3)
ACC +13 (5+5+3)
AVO +9 (1+5+3)
ASP +12 (5+1+3+3)
Considering natural stats have a cap of 100, Those +13s and +11s are looking pretty nice!
Let the theorycrafting begin!
