Metis is a strange asteroid that orbits Earth. By comparison, Metis is roughly 1.5x the size of the planet, and passes by Earth twice a year on very specific dates. One of those dates, however, is considered very special- the day Metis passes between the Earth and the Sun. On that day at exactly noon, Metis blocks all sunlight from reaching Earth, and it seems to become night time in the middle of the day. Many towns throw extravagant festivals during this period.
