what.is.illuminite?

With the vyrmm nowhere to be found and the Nox becoming a greater threat by the day, humans turned to illuminite for a defense against the dark creatures at night.

Illuminite is a transparent crystal similar in composition to Strontium- the element used in "glow in the dark" objects. However, it charges slower and glows longer- for every hour of sunlight it is exposed to, illuminite will glow for approximately 6 hours, with a maximum glow time of 72 hours. It glows intensely in a deep shade of royal blue.

Because of its invaluable ability to ward off the Nox, humans make pendants out of illuminite, and keep out close to where they sleep at night. They must be careful to leave them out in sunlight during the day, however, or the charge will slowly fade away. The pendants are typically shaped like the distict markings on a vyrmm's face- symbolic of the protection they used to provide.

Many villages surround their town with small fences with illuminite crystals tied to strings between posts. They are exposed to sunlight during the day and ward off the Nox at night rather effectively. However, these fences are rendered useless if there are three consecutive days of stormy weather, and no sunlight reaches the crystals by day. However, this has rarely ever been an issue, and the three day window gives villagers plenty of time to prepare to defend themselves.
