Some characters are more difficult to level than others. Martin for example, doesn't have a lot of defense, and as a dimensionist he also suffers from slow attack speed. It's very easy for him to be knocked out if he doesn't have someone to guard him at first.There is another way to level characters to improve their abilities, and that is with Bonus Experience. By completing quests and other non-combat objectives, extra experience points can be accumulated and spent on any character you choose. This can help keep your party members in balance with each other, or help new recruits through the early levels.
