where.is.the.desert.of.madmen?

The Desert of Madmen encompasses the entire southeast peninsula of the continent. If its name is no hint, it's incredibly expansive, and devoid of life. However, that doesn't necessarily mean it is empty.

It is told that long, long ago, the desert was a lush jungle. A tribe lived among the thick foliage. The trees were so dense, it was said, that no sunlight could reach the ground, even in mid-day. These people became incredibly skilled thieves, developing very good night-vision and reflexes. The tribe only knew darkness, and refused to honor Soal. As the story goes, Soal decided to teach these people a lesson by making the sun over this jungle burn hotter than anywhere else. Soon the plants began to die, and the tribal people were exposed to the hot sun.

Rather than seeing this as a sign to change their ways, the people lashed out in rage and hated Soal that much more.

Eventually the forest burned to the ground, though the piles of stolen treasure remained. Adventurers often foolishly attempt to find this lost treasure, but none has ever been recovered. It seems to have all been lost in the sands.
